Other cacti may make cactus water that is no safe to drink.  The acids and alkaloids found in some cacti can be hard on kidneys. Cactus flesh can cause. diarrhea, paralysis, or vomiting--not too helpful for survival. The fine exceptions are the already mentioned prickly pear (nopal) and fishook barrel, one of the famous barrel cactus species--Ferocactus wislizeni.
